A PhD student position is open in the BRAIN Lab (Biomechanics, Rehabilitation and Integrative Neuroscience) at Texas A&M University, starting Fall 2027. The lab studies how the brain controls balance and walking, especially in aging and neurological conditions, combining biomechanics and neuroscience to inform rehabilitation.
Institution: Texas A&M University, BRAIN Lab
Field: Biomechanics, neuroscience, rehabilitation (balance and walking control, sensory integration, cognitive-motor interactions)
Level: PhD
Funding: Not stated in the post
Training: Hands-on experience with 3D motion capture, instrumented gait and balance assessments, virtual reality-based walking, EEG, and noninvasive brain stimulation (TMS)
Eligibility: A bachelor's degree in biomechanics, kinesiology, exercise science, physical therapy, engineering, neuroscience or a related field. A master's degree, prior research experience with human participants, and programming or data analysis skills (MATLAB, Python, R, etc.) are assets but not required. The lab is looking for students who enjoy thinking through research questions and want to approach problems from both biomechanics and neuroscience perspectives.
Deadline: Dec 1, 2026
How to apply: Email the PI a CV and a brief statement (no more than one page) covering your research interests, what draws you to the BRAIN Lab, and what you hope to gain from doctoral training. Lab website: https://sites.google.com/view/brain-lab-tamu/. KNSM doctoral admissions information: https://knsm.tamu.edu/doctoral-admissions/. The PI's email address is not included in the post, so check the lab website for contact details.
