Two PhD positions are open in the REACT (Resilient Energy and Advanced Converter Technologies) Power Electronics Laboratory at Kansas State University, with a preferred start in Summer or Fall 2027.
Institution: Kansas State University, REACT Power Electronics Laboratory
Field: Power electronics, converter modeling and control, cyber-resilient power systems
Level: PhD
Funding: Not stated in the post
Eligibility: Required: a master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; a strong background in power electronics, converter modeling and control; and knowledge of embedded digital control using DSPs, microcontrollers, or FPGAs. Preferred: hands-on experience in power converter design, implementation and testing; experience or interest in machine learning, Edge AI or advanced optimization; familiarity with quantum computing (a plus).
Research directions:
1. Physics-based modeling and Edge AI for cyber-resilient power electronics, including converter-level digital twins, physics-informed monitoring, and embedded AI for anomaly detection, diagnostics and resilience in interconnected converters and microgrids.
2. Advanced control and optimization of power-electronic systems, including real-time predictive control, centralized and distributed coordination, and quantum-assisted optimization methods.
Both directions combine analytical modeling, simulation, embedded control implementation and experimental validation on power-electronic hardware.
Deadline: not stated in the post
How to apply: Email your CV and a brief description of your research and experimental experience to roiggreid@ksu.edu. Only candidates whose qualifications align with the research will be contacted. Research group page: https://lnkd.in/gZfrhJBA
