Georgia Southern University | Start: Spring 2026
I am currently seeking one exceptional PhD student to join my research group starting Spring 2026.
🔍 Research Focus
Our lab addresses real-time challenges at the intersection of robotics, optimization, and uncertainty modeling, with a strong emphasis on theoretical foundations and experimental validation. Current research directions include:
- Near-optimal multi-robot operation under uncertainty
- Adaptive, distributed coordination under physical and communication constraints
- Stochastic modeling and predictive analytics for sensor-driven decision making
🧠 Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with a strong mathematical foundation and demonstrated skills or interest in one or more of the following areas:
-Heuristic optimization / Metaheuristics
-Multi-robot systems / Robotics
-Stochastic processes and probabilistic modeling
-Reinforcement learning / Machine learning
Required qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Strong background in mathematics, algorithm design, and system modeling
- Proficiency in Python, C++, or MATLAB
- (Preferred) Experience with embedded systems, sensors, Arduino, or microcontrollers (drones, surface vessels)
🛠️ Project Themes
Students will work on high-impact, hands-on research topics such as:
- Cooperative UAV/UGV coordination
- Sensor network optimization
- Real-time target tracking and decision-making with partial information
- Projects are aligned toward conference publications, journal articles, and real-world validation using robotic platforms.
💰 Funding & Support
- Fully funded PhD position (stipend + full tuition) for the first two years, renewable based on performance
- A highly qualified MS student may also be considered for funding (tuition + stipend) based on availability
