PhD Positions | Fall 2026 | Spring 2027 | Human-Infrastructure Systems |US-based Students only

This fall I'll be starting as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering at University of Illinois Chicago. I am very thankful to all my colleagues, students, and friends at Utah State University and across Utah who made my time here so wonderful and productive.

At UIC, I'm building the Human-Infrastructure Systems Lab (Hi Lab), and am looking to hire great PhD students for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. The Hi Lab will study how people experience and navigate infrastructure systems and emerging mobility technologies under stress, including natural hazards, disasters, institutional disruptions, cascading infrastructure failures, and how institutions respond and govern adaptively. I am especially interested in working with students who want to pursue equity and justice-focused research questions.
