I'm recruiting PhD students to explore issues around Inclusive Design in the Built Environment! NC State College of Design at North Carolina State University is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our NC State Design Doctoral Programs and research community in Fall 2026 with a focus on inclusive design in the built environment. This position will support The Alliance for Inclusive Design, a collaborative initiative dedicated to advancing equity, accessibility, and belonging in design practice and research.
Research Focus Areas may include: designing environments that promote accessibility and usability for diverse populations; inclusive approaches to urban design, housing, and public space; policy and practice frameworks supporting equitable design; community-engaged research methods to inform design for all.
We are looking for candidates who have a background in architecture, design, planning, engineering, or related disciplines; are passionate about advancing inclusive and equitable practices in the built environment; demonstrate strong research and communication skills; and are eager to collaborate across disciplines and with community partners.
Location: NC State University, Raleigh, NC. Interested candidates should prepare a statement of research interests, CV, and writing sample.
