The Neuromuscular Control and Robotics Lab at NC State University is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our multidisciplinary research team. Our lab develops advanced technologies for restoring and augmenting motor function, with a strong emphasis on integrating control systems theory, neural engineering, and preclinical models.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will:
Work with large animal models (pig model), including performing surgical procedures and experimental studies in collaboration with NC State Veterinary School.
Develop and apply advanced control algorithms for neuromuscular systems and medical devices.
Collaborate closely with neural engineers at UNC-Chapel Hill and interdisciplinary teams across engineering, neuroscience, and veterinary medicine.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Strong interest in both hands-on experimental work with animal models and theoretical work in control systems.
Previous experience in animal surgery, neuroscience research, or physiological experiments is highly desirable (training will also be provided).
Background in control theory, robotics, or systems modeling is a plus.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Why Join Us?
This is a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between engineering theory and translational biomedical applications. You will gain expertise in both experimental neuroscience/physiology and advanced control systems, preparing you for a career at the intersection of biomedical engineering, robotics, and neural engineering.
Application
Interested applicants should send a CV, statement of research interests, and contact information for three references to Dr. Nitin Sharma at nsharm23@ncsu.edu.
