The Robotics and Mechatronics Lab (RMLab), directed by Prof. Pinhas Ben-Tzvi in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Miami, is seeking multiple highly motivated PhD students to join cutting-edge research in robotics, autonomous systems, and mechatronics.
RMLab conducts research at the intersection of robotics design, control, artificial intelligence, and human–robot interaction. Current and upcoming projects include:
* Legged robotics with bioinspired robotic tails (bipedal and quadrupedal robots with advanced AI-based control)
* Mechatronic devices for biomedical applications (rehabilitation and assistive robotic exoskeletons, surgical robotics) in collaboration with the University of Miami Miller Medical School
* Reinforcement learning (RL) for robotics (multi-agent RL, safe exploration, human-in-the-loop learning)
* Field and Marine robotics (unmanned surface vehicles, AI-on-the-edge systems)
Required Qualifications:
B.S. and/or M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and high self-motivation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Publications in peer-reviewed venues
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Experience in two or more of the following:
-- Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Matlab/Simulink, or C/C++ for modeling and control
-- ROS/ROS2, reinforcement learning, machine learning, computer vision, and optimization
-- Embedded systems, RTOS, FPGA/DSP programming
-- Mechanical/electrical (mechatronics) design, 3D printing, PCB design, and prototyping
-- Simulation tools (Gazebo, Mujoco) and experimental robotics research
How to Apply:
