Sustainable Livestock Lab at Dalhousie University is looking for an energetic, quick learner, and independent MSc candidate. The lab’s projects are primarily focused on feed efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, resilience, and fitness traits in livestock, utilizing innovative techniques such as genetics/genomics, metabolomics, nutrition, and machine learning. We aim to optimize the profitability of the livestock industry through a sustainable approach, utilizing interdisciplinary research projects and engagement with industry.
As a graduate student, you will be admitted to Dalhousie University and will be responsible for conducting research in the area of dairy cattle nutrition and methane emission reduction. You will be based directly at Dalhousie University's Department of Animal Science (Truro campus) throughout your MSc program. As part of this research, you will gain knowledge in the areas of ruminant nutrition, dairy cattle efficiency, methane measurement techniques, and the analysis of large datasets (e.g., reproduction, production, and metabolomics and microbiome data). In this role, you will have the opportunity to interact with a strong team of collaborators within Dalhousie University and will regularly interact with industry partners.
Applicants should have a minimum of a BSc in Animal Science or Veterinary Science, with hands-on experience working with ruminant animals. Knowledge of data analysis is required, and experience with bioinformatics is considered an asset. Applicants must also provide proof of English language proficiency as required by Dalhousie University.
