DESCRIPTION:
Fully Funded PhD Positions - Sensing, AI & Robotics in Construction and Urban Environments - Spring / Fall 2027 - UNLV
Dr. John Sohn is seeking one or two highly motivated PhD students to join his research group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The positions are fully funded and available for Spring 2027 or Fall 2027 admission.
Successful candidates will join the group's mission to advance automation, productivity, and safety in construction, while also improving mobility, travel experiences, and quality of life in urban environments. Interdisciplinary approach integrating construction engineering and management with AI, sensing technologies, robotics, and social science.
Potential Research Areas:
Construction automation; construction safety; AI and robotics in construction and urban environments; sensing technologies; human factors; digital transformation; mobility; urban livability; age-friendly built environments; and positive aging.
Qualifications:
Minimum: Bachelor's or Master's degree in a STEM field + satisfy admission requirements for a UNLV Engineering graduate program
Preferred: Experience with sensing technologies, AI, robotics, data analytics; strong computational and programming skills; record of publications in engineering, science, or related fields
