2 PhD students in AI for biomedicine at the Medical University of Vienna

At the MEGA group (Mathematical Engineering with Genomics and AI), we are building next-generation generative and causal AI systems for:
• Virtual Cells
• Virtual Tissues
• Virtual Whole Organs

The projects sit at the intersection of:
🧬 spatial genomics
🔬 bioimaging
🧠 generative AI
📐 mathematics & physics-inspired ML
🏥 medicine

You will work on developing new machine learning methods for multimodal biomedical data, including:
• single-cell and spatial omics
• histology and imaging
• perturbation modeling
• causal inference
• generative models of tissues and organs

The lab is based at the Center for AI in Medicine CAIM and the Department of Medicine III at the Medical University of Vienna.

I’m especially looking for highly motivated candidates with strong backgrounds in one or more of:
• machine learning
• computational biology
• mathematics / theoretical physics
• biomedical data science

Strong Python/PyTorch skills are highly desirable.
