I'm now recruiting 1–2 motivated PhD students to help build my research lab from the ground up.
🔬 Research Focus:
My lab works on alloy development and design, high-temperature materials processing, thermophysical property characterization, along with uncertainty analysis and modeling of process-structure-property relationships through Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) to support the additive manufacturing (AM) industry.
🎓 Who I'm Looking For:
I'm looking for someone self-motivated, curious, and excited to collaborate across disciplines. Ideally, you'll have a BS or MS in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, along with a background or strong interest in additive manufacturing, alloy design, or high-temperature materials. Experience with materials characterization, computational/ICME tools (e.g., Thermo-Calc,CALPHAD, FEM), uncertainty analysis, statistical analysis or experimental processing is a plus.
You don't need to check every box — real curiosity about material behaviour matters more than a perfect transcript.
💡 Why Join This Lab? You'll be a founding member of a new research group with the chance to directly shape its direction, build hands-on expertise spanning experimental and computational materials science, and contribute to work with real impact on AM industry partners and aerospace/space applications. Boise's growing tech and aerospace ecosystem plus easy access to the outdoors make it a great place to do a PhD.
📩 Interested? If you'd want to spend a few years on solving growing materials problem in challenging spaces, send me your CV, unofficial transcripts, and a short note on what draws you to this work to jannatunnawer@boisestate.edu. 🚀 ⚙️
