Hiring two highly motivated Ph.D. students to join my research team in the Department of Automotive Engineering at Clemson University. The selected students will conduct research focused on advancing rechargeable battery technologies, particularly in the following areas:
1. Advanced battery materials
2. Data-driven battery development
3. Battery manufacturing
The Ph.D. students will collaborate with a multidisciplinary research team and have access to materials synthesis and processing facilities, state-of-the-art characterization tools, and a pouch cell manufacturing line.
Background and Skills:
Applicants should have a strong background in materials science and electrochemistry, along with programming and data science skills. Experience in materials synthesis and advanced characterization techniques is highly desirable. Prior scientific publications will be considered favorably during the application review process.
Responsibilities:
The prospective Ph.D. students will be expected to engage in the following activities:
- Synthesis, processing, and characterization of battery materials
- Fabrication and electrochemical characterization of (coin- and pouch-type) batteries
- Application of data science and machine learning techniques for battery development, diagnostics, and predictive modeling
- Establishment and validation of physics-based models for the newly developed batteries
- Preparation of technical reports, research presentations, and scientific manuscripts for publication
