Recruiting one or two fully funded Ph.D. students to join the Computing and Robotics Construction (CaRC) Lab in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering at Michigan Technological University.
The positions may start in Fall 2026, January 2027, or at another date upon negotiation.
The students will work in one or more of the following research areas:
• Construction automation and robotics
• Artificial intelligence in construction
• Computer vision and generative AI applications in construction
• Modular and prefabricated construction
• BIM and digital twins
• Blockchain-enabled contract management
The positions will provide full financial support, including tuition, health insurance, and a monthly stipend. Preferred applicants should:
• Hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in construction management, civil engineering, transportation engineering, computer science, or a related field
• Have research experience in robotics, computer vision, generative AI, machine learning, digital twins, or other information technologies in construction
• Have programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or C++
• Be familiar with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or MXNet, or be strongly willing to learn
• Have experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals
• Demonstrate strong research passion, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently
• Meet Michigan Tech’s general graduate admission requirements
