Our BRIDGE Laboratory (PI: Dr. Praveen Meduri) in the School of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK is recruiting a PhD student to work on:
"Operando Electrochemistry: Surface Evolution of Metal Chalcogenides for Green Hydrogen Generation"
Project Focus:
Designing catalysts that make green hydrogen affordable and monitoring their operation in real time. While iridium and ruthenium work, their scarcity and cost limit scale. The aim is to develop non-noble copper-cobalt selenide catalysts and use operando spectroscopy to study surface reconstructions during OER.
About BRIDGE = Building Resilient Interfaces for food, water, and energy through Dynamic Energy Conversion
Electrocatalysis & photocatalysis for green hydrogen & solar water splitting
CO₂ conversion into valuable chemicals and fuels
Electrochemical water purification & resource recovery
Biomass valorization into bio-oil, biochar & fuels
🔬 Highlight: Funded summer research at Columbia University in Dr. Daniel Esposito’s Solar Fuels Engineering Lab, using operando Raman and SECM — hands-on experience!
We Are Looking For:
B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related
Curiosity & genuine interest in electrochemistry, catalysis, operando spectroscopy
Lab experience with electrochemical methods & materials characterization (Process modeling a plus)
Strong written & spoken English, collaborative & self-driven
What You Will Get:
Full financial support for qualified PhD students
Mentorship toward first-author publications, conference presentations & fellowships
Access to modern electrochemistry, synthesis & characterization facilities
Training bridging fundamental science and real-world challenges facing Oklahoma and beyond
